Faustus with
Frodo and Sam-lookalike cherubs. 2003.
blue pencil, micron, marker.
Okay, I wrote an
interesting blurb about this picture at the forum, so why
I don't just share it here?
~~~
There's somewhat of a
story behind these, so I might as well share. I'm doing a
picture of a cherub playing a guitar for my final AP art
project, so I figured that I'd get myself started on
drawing fat little winged babies before I started out.
I'd been peering at the Pants Press sketchblog and Vera's
insane marker-work and decided I might as well break out
the old hallucination-inducing bastards. I wish I could
draw like Vera. I wish I could color like
Vera....
Soo I started doodling.
And this came about.
The problem is that the
blue pencil I was using doesn't completely erase, but it
doesn't bleed, either, so it wasn't as much of a problem
that it would've been if I'd been using graphite. Still,
Faustus has blue lines going through him... but I think
it gives the picture character. It still doesn't excuse
the fact that I hate how I drew Faustus, but you can't
win 'em all.
The picture still makes
me laugh though, because I really do dislike cherubs.
They're really scary, and plus I think that over the
years they've screwed it up for the rest of the angels. I
mean, what kind mainstream angels do you see now? Pretty
girly angels and plump little rosy-cheeked cherubims.
What happened to the fierce godly flaming sword-wielding,
ass-kicking warriors, eh? That's all you'd hear about in
the biblical times. They've gone out of style now. Poor
fellows. Must feel horribly left out. I bet that you
didn't know that cherubs were originally supposed to be a
caste of fierce and frightening warriors, then eventually
evolved into the lute-playing cupids over time. I guess
because the name sounds cute. On that note, they probably
got screwed over just as much as the seraphs and thrones
and principalities and such. But I'm rambling.
By the way, did you
notice how much the two cherubs closely resemble Frodo
and Sam? I didn't mean it, really. Actually, I did color
their hair accordingly, because I realized the
resemblance after drawing it out and thought it was
silly. They're still disgustingly cute.
Yep, that was it for
this picture. The next one is kinda in a set with
it.
Oh yes, and I did
finish that picture of the cherub playing the guitar, it
turned out decently. But I gave it away and never got a
decent picture of it. -_- *sigh* Alas.
Also, someone at the
forum pointed out that it looks like Faustus is about to
throw the apple of the cherubs. I'm inclined to
agree.
